USA based Singer Devika launches new contemporary Sufi Album titled “Saari Raat”
November 24th, 2009
San Francisco based Indian-American solo singer Devika announced the launch of “Saari Raat” - a contemporary Sufi album with Saregama India Limited, India’s leading record label. The album will be released by world famous Sufi artist, Zila Khan, at the launch event in New Delhi.
“Saari Raat” is the second solo album by Devika and produced by Shahi, known for Mann Ki Lagan from Paap. She is well known for her previous track “Kehnde Ne Naina” that was licensed by Sony Music India for their top selling Sufi compilation titled “Teri Deewani” which remained #1 on the Indian pop music charts for most of 2008. Devika also collaborated with Fever FM programming director Pralay Bakshi for an advertising supported solo titled “Ek Kaagaz” and with Bohemia – The Punjabi Rapper for two title tracks from his last album titled “Da Rap Star”. Bohemia’s album featuring Devika’s vocals on tracks “Ek Tera Pyar” and “Dil” has been #1 on the Indian Music charts since launch in the latter part of 2009.
“Saari Raat” has been a culmination of cross continent collaboration across Asia & North America, made possible by the digitally connected world we live in. Music has been composed by Shehzad Hasan – Shahi, Pakistan’s most talented music producer, with additional compositions by Noor Lodhi & Manesh Judge. The emotional theme and core of the album is the waiting, longing and sweet pain in the real world of love, as metaphorically suggested by the name “Saari Raat”. The lyrics, compositions, vocal delivery, music and sound are contemporary -- representative of the times we live in.
The main video “Barkha Bahaar” has been directed by Sam Burbank, acclaimed for over two dozen documentaries for National Geographic and Discovery Channel. The video was shot in San Francisco, featuring stunning views of Ocean Beach and The Golden Gate Bridge, using cutting edge equipment -- Canon 5D Mark II at 1080p HD.
