Kailash Kher goes global
June 25th, 2009
Singer Kailash Kher is all set to make his musical debut in Hollywood along with Oscar-winner A R Rehman with the movie 'Couples Retreat' even as he gears up for the universal release of his third album 'Kailaasa, Chaandan Mein'.
The singer, who will also begin his first international tour later this year, told that he is excited about performing at popular platforms like the Hollywood Ball in Los Angeles.
"I have been invited to perform at the Hollywood Ball and at the San Francisco and Brooklyn music festivals," Kher who was in the city to promote his third album told in an interview.
The 33-year-old musician has sung in the 'Couples Retreat’, which is Rahman's first international project after 'Slumdog Millionaire' and stars Hollywood A-listers like Vince Vaughn and Jason Bateman.
"I have sung a 'tarana' in the film for Rahman and working with him is always a unique experience," told the singer while adding that he is open to other offers from the west but will only accept work of quality.
"I will not accept a project just because it is coming from the west. It should be interesting work that gives me creative satisfaction," told the artiste.
Kher told that the deal for his third album's global release fell into place after a successful show in New York.
Kher is excited about the global release of his third album, which is very close to his heart.
"Me and my band had a performance in New York this January and it was very successful and got good reviews in the Wall Street Journal. The people just went crazy, despite not understanding the language, they connected to the music. And soon after Kumbancha records signed us on to release the third album internationally," told Kher whose last two albums have enjoyed both critical and commercial success.
The musician who is also a successful Bollywood playback singer said that he enjoyed the process of creating an album because he likes writing and then putting the words to music.
"When I came to Mumbai I did not want to become a play back singer, I wanted to have a band and create an album, that is my passion. I immensely enjoy writing and the third album says that longing for a loved one need not always be a painful experience, it can be a celebration of love," told Kher, who was born and brought up in Delhi but moved to Mumbai to fulfill his musical ambitions.
'Kailaasa, Chandan Mein' will offer Kher's signature love ballads along with a selection of high tempo tracks.
Kher who has also sung in Kannada and Telugu movies has his hands full when it comes to Bollywood.
"You will get to hear me in Vishal Bhardwaj's 'Kaminay', Karan Johar's 'Qurbaan', 'Paathshala' and 'Rang Rasiya'. And the best part is that I am getting to sing different types of songs," told Kher.
