Jaswinder Singh’s “Ishq Nahin Asaan”

Jaswinder SinghJaswinder Singh is a young gazal maestro and has some distinctive and enchanting voice which enters the veins and make people listen to him over and over again. He’s been following his father Kuldip Singh’s footsteps and has been receiving training under him since childhood. Of late, one of the largest music archive of India Saregama has launched his new album “Ishq Nahin Asaan” which comprises of 7 gazals and 1 nazm. He recently conversed with media in Mumbai. Following is the conversation:

Q. 1: Tell us about your new gazal album “Ishq Nahin Asaan” and what new it offers to the audience so they are compelled to grab their copy.
Ans. 1: “Ishq Nahin Asaan” is my new album and name itself suggest that the theme of the album is immense love, romance and hardships faced in the journey of love. The album comprises of 7 gazals and 1 nazm. Noted poets like Bekhud, Momin, Faiz Ahmed, Jigar Moradabadi and renowned Mirza Galib have beautifully written the gazals. The music is composed by my father Kuldip Singh. The gazals are in simple language so that it is easy to understand and grasp by everyone including youth like “Jo Kisi Parr Fida Nahin Hota”, one of the track of my album.

Q. 2: What made you to choose above mentioned poets?
Ans. 2: All of these poets are noted and renowned. They add the exquisiteness to the album. And I love to sing on their written notes and they are the U.S.P of my album.

Q. 3: Whom of these poets do you desire to voice again and again?
Ans. 3: Faiz Ahmed Faiz and Mirza Galib are the poets I love to voice again and again.

Q. 4: Which is your favorite gazal from the album?
Ans. 4: “Jo Kisi Parr Fida Nahin Hota” is one of my favorite. It’s written by combined work of Bekhud, Momin and Jigar Moradabadi.

Q. 5: How does it feel to sing songs composed by your father Kuldip Singh?
Ans. 5: It feels great to work with my father who is there in the industry since so many years and has ample of experience. He is aware about my short-comings and my strengths. Before this album, we have also worked together in 2 previous album of mine namely, “Your’s truly” and “Dilkash”.

Q. 6: You have performed in more than 300 stage shows across the globe? Which is the most demanded gazal from the audience?
Ans. 6: ‘Sakt rahoon mein bhi safar asaan lagta hain, Yeh to meri Ma ki duaun ka asar lagta hain” is always demanded by people.

Q. 7: Which gazal singer you look upto and admire the most?
Ans. 7: Gazal masters like Mehendi Hasan, Jagjeet Singh, Hariharan, Pankaj Udas all are stalwarts and Iadmire all of them.

Q. 8: Which of gazal singers encourage upcoming talent and help them to explore the music arena?
Ans. 8: Hariharan and Pankaj Udas always encourage new talent. Both of them inspired me a lot. Pankaj Udas every year organizes “Khazana Festival” which acts as a platform for future bunch of talent.

Q. 9: Apart from your father under which music director you aspire to work?
Ans. 9: Apart from my father, I would love to work with A.R.Rehman and Shankar Ehsaan Loy.

Q. 10: Comment on play “Kafi aur mein”.
Ans. 10: I have performed in 300 shows nationally and internationally. We have received immensely massive good response from audience. Javed Aktar and Shabana Azmi narrate some facts related to Kafi Sahab. And I sing some gazals written by him.

Q. 11: You even appear in TV show. Brief us about it.
Ans. 11: This is the show known as “Idea Jalsa” telecasted on National TV. There are groups of singers. On one hand experienced and successful singers and on other hand upcoming and new singers.

Q. 12: Which Film Actor you want to sing for?
Ans. 12: Amir Khan.
